Tamraght Surf Lesson with Local Instructor and Gear
A full-day surf trip to the Atlantic waves at Tamraght with board, wetsuit and local instructor, from pickup in Marrakech.
About this tour
Tamraght, south of Taghazout on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, is a welcoming place to try surfing with a local instructor. This is a full-day trip from Marrakech, with timing adapted to the beach conditions. You begin on the sand with a safety briefing and a simple pop-up practice, then enter the water in a supervised group. The instructor selects the suitable section of beach and equipment for the day, so complete beginners can focus on learning the basics with clear guidance.

Good to know
- A long day This is a full day: pickup around 07:00 and back around 18:30. The drive is the main cost of the trip, and the coast is 3 hours from Marrakech.
- Swell conditions From November to March the Atlantic brings consistent waves and this is the best season. Summer is for swimming and long beach days.
- Rip currents There are rip currents, as on any Atlantic beach. Stay with your instructor at all times and never enter alone.
- Water temperature 17–21°C depending on the month. A wetsuit is included and you will be comfortable for a full session.
- Minimum age 10 years old, because of the board size and the paddle-out. Under 10s can watch from the beach with breakfast.
- Weight and board size Boards are selected according to your height, weight and confidence in the water, from stable softboards for beginners to smaller boards for experienced riders.
- What to bring Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes. The beach has showers and changing rooms but no shop.
- Safety The lesson is postponed, adapted or rescheduled if the beach is closed, a red flag is flying or conditions are unsafe. We will contact you with the available option.
Why travellers love this trip
- Waves every day The Atlantic coast brings varied conditions through the year. Your instructor chooses the most suitable time and area for the group’s level.
- Genuinely beginner-first Soft, forgiving whitewater and sand bottom. This is the coast where almost everyone catches their first wave.
- Local instructor A surfer from Taghazout, teaching the break he grew up on, not a seasonal coach flown in for the week.
- All gear included Board, wetsuit and leash are in the price, so there is nothing to buy or carry on the way down.

Common questions
How long is the drive from Marrakech?
It is a full-day outing from Marrakech. Travel time varies with traffic and beach conditions; we confirm the pickup time and expected return time with your booking.
I have never surfed. Will I really get in the water?
Yes. The session starts in the whitewater where the wave pushes you instead of dropping on you, and your instructor holds your board. On a first lesson most people catch one wave standing up within the hour.
What ages can surf?
From 10 years old, which is about the smallest board we carry. Younger children can wait on the beach with breakfast and watch, which many of them prefer.
Do I need to bring my own board?
No. Board, leash, wax and wetsuit are all included and are the right size for you. Wear swimwear under the wetsuit and bring a towel and change of clothes.
Are there currents at Tamraght?
Like any Atlantic beach there are rip currents. Our instructors brief you on them before entering the water, mark safe entry and exit points, and stay in the water with you throughout.
Is swimming safer than surfing here?
On a calm day, swimming at this beach is unremarkable. Surfing is not riskier by nature, it is riskier if done unsupervised. That is why we never split a group without an instructor in the water.
What happens if the sea is rough?
Safety comes first. If a red flag, storm or beach closure makes the lesson unsuitable, we contact you to postpone, adapt or reschedule the activity according to the available conditions.
Is it worth the long transfer?
This experience suits travellers who want to include the Atlantic coast in their Marrakech stay and are comfortable with a full day away from the city. Check the confirmed pickup time before reserving.
