Agafay Quad & Buggy Desert Adventure from Marrakech

Ride a quad bike or a two-seater buggy across the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from Marrakech, with hotel pickup and a Berber tea stop.

Half day (about 4 hours) Starts in Marrakech Ends in Agafay Desert Private tour

About this tour

The Agafay desert sits just outside Marrakech, so you can experience Morocco’s wide, open stone landscape without a long transfer. This half-day outing combines a drive through the countryside with guided riding on marked desert tracks, then finishes with mint tea in a traditional tent. Choose a quad bike for a solo ride or a two-seater buggy to share the experience; the team confirms the best option for your group before departure.

Good to know

  • First-time riders No previous off-road experience is needed. The team explains the controls, confirms rider eligibility and keeps the group on the guided route.
  • Age and children Minimum age 8 for quads. Children under 16 must ride with an adult on the buggy. Under 4s are not suitable.
  • What to wear Closed shoes, long trousers and a scarf or buff for the dust. Helmets are provided but goggles are not.
  • Heat in summer Midday temperatures reach 38°C or more from May to September. We ride early and drink breaks are frequent.
  • Winter mornings From November to February expect frost on the vehicle at 7:00, so bring a jacket for the first hour.
  • Safety first The operator may delay, adapt or reschedule the ride if weather or visibility makes the route unsafe. We will contact you with the available option.
  • Pickup time Hotel pickup runs between 08:00 and 09:30 depending on your hotel and the season.
  • Dust and allergies The desert is dusty. If you have asthma or hay fever, tell us when booking so we can time the ride for lower dust.

Why travellers love this trip

  • Desert in 40 minutes No long transfer, no overnight in the Sahara. You are on the dunes before your coffee cools.
  • Real engine time About an hour on the handlebars, which is the sweet spot: long enough to learn, short enough to stay comfortable.
  • Two ways to ride Solo on a quad for control, or side by side in a buggy so you can share the moment.
  • Tea with a view The finish line is a Berber tent and a glass of mint tea, not a car park.

Common questions

Do I need a driving licence?

You do not need previous off-road experience. Rider and passenger requirements depend on the selected vehicle and are confirmed with you before the booking is accepted.

Can I choose the quad or the buggy?

Yes. Tell us when booking and we assign the vehicle that fits your group. Groups of two wanting to ride together usually prefer the buggy, while confident riders or solo travellers usually take the quad.

Is the Agafay desert the same as the Sahara?

No. Agafay is a stone desert 40 minutes from Marrakech with a similar dune landscape, but it is a completely different environment from the sandy Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. Many visitors add this as a short taste of the desert before a longer Sahara trip.

Is it suitable for children?

Families are welcome, but the suitable vehicle and age requirements depend on the child’s age and height. Tell us the ages in your request so the team can confirm a safe option.

What happens if it is too hot?

We shift the start to 07:30 in July and August, add a water stop every 30 minutes, and shorten the riding if needed. If a heat warning is issued we swap the outing for the same trip in the morning only.

How dusty is it really?

Very dusty, especially on the sand tracks. Please expect to get dusty and bring a scarf. It washes out of clothes easily and we advise against wearing white on the riding section.

Can I pay on the day?

Send your booking request from this page. We confirm availability, the final price and the available deposit or payment option before any payment is requested.

What if I have never driven a quad?

Most first-timers are comfortable within ten minutes. The quad is automatic, the turning circle is tight and the pace is slow on the first loop. Your guide rides beside you throughout.
